Project Overview

Mandiri Sekuritas, a leading investment bank in Indonesia, sought to develop Most, a multi-platform investment app. This app enables users to buy and sell stocks, mutual funds, Sharia-compliant investments, and bonds. The project encompassed the design and development of a web application, desktop applications (for macOS and Windows), and a mobile app, ensuring a cohesive experience across all platforms.

My Role

As the Senior Product Designer, I was responsible for:

• Managing the UI/UX and visual design for the web and desktop applications.
• Collaborating directly with clients to understand their goals and translate them into a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing design.
• Ensuring consistency in design and user experience across all platforms.

Design Process

• User-Centered Information Architecture: I prioritized understanding the user journey to create an intuitive navigation system. This approach ensured that users could easily access and manage their investments.
• Modular Design Components: I defined and implemented modular components that could be reused across the web, desktop, and mobile platforms. This not only ensured visual consistency but also facilitated easier updates and scalability.
• Cross-Platform Consistency: I focused on maintaining a cohesive experience across different devices by optimizing the design flow and ensuring that the app felt intuitive regardless of the platform.

Challenges

• Multi-Platform Consistency: One of the key challenges was ensuring that the design remained consistent and user-friendly across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, despite the different interaction models each platform demands.
• Understanding the Business Process: This is the most challenging aspect; as a designer, I must dive deep into the world of buying and selling stocks—a completely new realm for me. It's not just about observing; I need to operate like a trader. Additionally, when analyzing competitor interfaces or workflows.
• Client Collaboration: Balancing client requirements with best design practices required careful negotiation and iteration to achieve a final product that met both user needs and client expectations.

Solution

• Unified Design Language: I developed a unified design language and modular components to maintain consistency across platforms. This approach also facilitated easier maintenance and updates.
• Iterative Feedback Loops: I established a collaborative process with the clients, involving regular feedback sessions and iterative design adjustments. This ensured that the final design aligned with the client’s vision while also delivering a high-quality user experience.
